Eight policemen were killed in an armed attack on their vehicle on the Nile Corniche in Cairo's district of Helwan, a security source at the Interior Ministry said.

In statements to MENA, the source said gunmen were driving a half-truck when they opened fire at a police vehicle that was on a security checkup on the Nile Corniche in Helwan.

The source said security bodies are combing the area in search for the attackers.
