Mini Olympics

More entries have been proved for the Third School Mini Olympics, scheduled to take place from April 21 until May 5.

Twenty four schools in total, including 16 government and 18 private schools and 2,500 students will be taking part in 10 sports disciplines during this two-week event, to held for the third successive year.

The third edition of the Mini Olympics is organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

This year will bring three team sports events, namely football, basketball and volleyball, in addition to athletics, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon and running race.

The draws for the football championships were recently staged with 24 teams lined up for the boys event, to be held at the Bahrain Football Association grounds. Eight schools will be taking part in the girls section at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.

In the volleyball championships, there are eight schools competing in the boys tournament and six vying for the girls title. Both events will take place at the Bahrain Volleyball Association gym in Riffa.

The venues of other sports competitions have also been announced as the swimming and aquathlon will both be staged at Khalifa Sports City, basketball (at Um Al Hassam Complex), table tennis (at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association), taekwondo (at the Bahrain Handball Association).

The School Mini Olympics aims to promote the concept of public health and creating a competitive sports environment among students, spreading knowledge and physical education among the younger generation, besides the principles of Olympic values and ideals. It also seeks to motivate them to practice sports activities and follow a healthy life style.
