President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Tuesday that new electricity projects would add up to 4,400 megawatts to the national grid by the end of 2016.
During a visit to new development projects in Assiut, the president said all projects would be delivered by end of 2018 and are expected to provide the southern governorate of Assiut by 1,000 MWs.
In a video conference meeting, the president gave orders to start operations at the newly established projects and was briefed on efforts exerted by the government to overcome challenges, the presidential spokesman said.
Earlier, Sisi inaugurated a number of projects, several of which entered service throughout the past year, include the Upper Egypt West Assiut power station that has a production capacity amounting to 1,000 megawatts.
The West Assiut power station was constructed by a consortium led by General Electric at a cost of $776.5 million.
The president said the achievements reached in the electricity file are unprecedented and realized in a record time.
Dabaa nuclear station adheres to the world's highest security standards, he added.
