Top seed Roberta Vinci was ousted from the $220,000 WTA Monterrey Open, with Russian Nina Bratchikova upsetting the Italian 7-5, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals. Bratchikova needed only 81 minutes to advance to the last-eight where she will face the winner of a Thursday match between Hungarian sixth seed Greta Arn and Croatian qualifier Maria Abramovic. Italian second seed Sara Errani downed France's Alize Cornet 6-2, 6-3 and Romanian Alexandra Cadantu eliminated Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 in other second-round matches. Cadantu will next face Spanish eighth seed Lourdes Dominguez Lino, who defeated Russian Valeria Savinykh 6-4, 6-2.
