Sri Lanka's captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bat in the crucial fourth one-day international against Pakistan in Colombo on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka must win the day-night match at the Premadasa stadium to stay afloat in the five-match series which Pakistan leads by a 2-1 margin.
Ninth-ranked Pakistan are seeking a series win to remain in contention for a place in the eight-nation Champions Trophy in England in 2017.
Sri Lanka, currently ranked fifth, are assured of taking part in the tournament.
