The Namibia Ladies Beach Volleyball team, missed out on their Olympic ticket to Rio after failing to impress at the just ended CAVB Continental Cup Finals held in Abuja, Nigeria.
The finals in Nigeria, played host to the top ten ladies beach volleyball teams in Africa. Namibia were in group B and played against Rwanda, Egypt, Morocco and Mozambique, while the All Africa Games Champions, Nigeria, were in group A with Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Mauritius.
The Namibian team which consisted of Rosi Hennes, Stephanie Palhert, Julia Lagger and Kim Seebach had already successfully progressed through two qualification rounds, but failed to make an impact, as they lost to a strong Moroccan team as well as the Egyptians and only won 7 out of the 10 matches they played through the qualification journey.
The national coach, James Verrinder in an interview on Friday said, "the ladies are still only 18, 19 and 22 years old and have many years ahead of them and with such valuable experience at such an early age, the future for the ladies beach volleyball looks very exciting."
The Olympic ticket to Rio Olympics was later clinched by Egypt after they beat Rwanda 2-1 in the Golden match.
