The International Olympic Committee IOC on Tuesday signified its commitment to the work of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) by agreeing to a long-term deal.
The IOC and IPC signed a memorandum of understanding outlining the continuing principles of the relationship between the organizations.
Among the issues addressed are IOC-IPC cooperation in increasing the visibility of the Paralympic Games and enhance the Paralympics brand; and helping implement Olympic Agenda 2020, a roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement, dpa reported.
The agreement also ensures the financial stability and long-term viability of the IPC, the Paralympic Games and the Paralympic Movement.
"This agreement is an important milestone in the implementation of Olympic Agenda 2020," IOC President Thomas Bach said.
"The IOC and IPC share the same goal of making the world a better place through sport, and I look forward to our two organizations working closely together to achieve this." IPC President Philip Craven said he looks forward to continued commitment from and collaboration with the IOC.
"We will now work together over the coming weeks and months to finalize the agreement which will take our partnership into a fourth decade and make the Paralympic Movement more self-sustainable," Craven said.
