Buenos Aires - Arab Today
Argentina have proposed playing Australia in their southern hemisphere Rugby Championship clash at Twickenham.
Argentina Rugby Union president Carlos Araujo said he went to Australia last week for talks with organizers of the four nation tournament which also includes New Zealand and South Africa.
The Pumas, who finished fourth at the World Cup last year where they were one of the revelations, are due to take on the Wallabies on October 8.
"To move this match to London is something very important for the UAR and Argentine rugby," Araujo told the UAR website.
"That our national team could be the home team at this impressive stadium speaks of how great it is and its present place in world rugby."
If the match goes ahead it would be the first Rugby Championship game played in the northern hemisphere.
"The Rugby Championship is undoubtedly one of the most important tournaments in the world and to take one of the games to the Northern Hemisphere would allow us to be the home side in the country where our sport was born," said Araujo.
Australia beat Argentina 29-15 in the World Cup semi-final at Twickenham last November. The Rugby Championship starts August 27.
