The former England boss had been a surprise candidate to replace Bortolo Mutti at the Renzo Barbera, but the new Rosanero team manager has backed the current coach to stay on.Christian Panucci has confirmed that Fabio Capello will not become the next coach of Palermo.Links had surfaced between the 65-year-old and the Sicilian outfit in the Italian media following the appointment of the former Roma defender to work alongside president Maurizio Zamparini and sporting director Luca Cattani. However, Panucci has dismissed the possibility of the former England manager occupying the hotseat at the Renzo Barbera. He told RadioRadio: \"Capello is a friend. I can\'t say if I\'ve contacted him or not but there isn\'t any chance of him coming to Palermo. Our coach is still Bortolo Mutti.\"Panucci was handed the role of team manager in March, as Zamparini reportedly plans to overhaul the management structure of the club ahead of next season, and the 39-year-old says he has been encouraged by the patron\'s methods.\"Zamparini has great enthusiasm and a real strategy,\" he explained.\"He is planning something important for the club and I\'m sure he is on the right path towards setting up a good team.\"I am having fun assisting him and will remain full of humility to grow in this role.\"Palermo are currently 11th in Serie A with 40 points, and face Parma on Sunday.
