Mexico have joined Honduras in qualifying for the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament in London with a comfortable 3-1 win over ten-man Canada in their last-four encounter at the CONCACAF U-23 Men’s Championship. The Mexicans controlled the majority of possession en route to clinching their place at London 2012, and deservedly opened the scoring through Marco Fabian on 20 minutes. Canada fired back through Marcus Haber, but the Canucks’ joy was short-lived. Alan Pulido quickly restored Mexico’s lead just one minute later to take his personal tally at the regional finals to a tournament-high five goals and send his side into the break full of confidence. After the restart, Miguel Ponce bagged Mexico’s third, and what little hope remained for Canada completely diminished when in the 77th minute Doneil Henry was given his marching orders for a second caution. In grabbing their London ticket, El Tricolor set up a final showdown against Honduras, who defeated El Salvador in the day’s earlier semi-final kick-off.
