The Merseyside club have begun their search for a new director of football, with the illustrious Dutch duo right at the top of the list to be the Frenchman\'s successor.Liverpool have set about replacing former director of football Damien Comolli immediately and have targeted making a move for either legendary former Barcelona boss Johan Cruyff or his countryman Louis Van Gaal, according to reports.Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are reportedly actively canvassing for experienced replacements already after Comolli was allowed to depart the club for \'family reasons\', having appeared to have been made a scapegoat for the club\'s recent league failings.Cruyff, 64, is currently working as the coach for the Catalan national team and as an advisor to Chivas Guadalajara, while also continuing to play a role behind the scenes at Ajax after leaving the Dutch champions\' Supervisory Board following a bitter behind-the-scenes power struggle. It therefore remains to be seen whether Cruyff could be tempted by the proposition of taking up a role at an English club, but he has a proven track record in developing young talent and improving club\'s youth systems.Louis Van Gaal, 60, on the other hand, would be available to start immediately, after finding himself without a club since his departure from Bayern Munich in 2011. The former Ajax and Barcelona boss has previous form when it comes to interest in a role of this nature, when a potential move to become Ajax\'s chief executive fell through amidst a court battle due to his long-standing feud with Ajax board member Cruyff earlier this year.
