The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has condemned the Tuesday bomb attack on a mosque in Nigeria believed to have been detonated by two female suicide bombers.
The attack resulted in the death of at least 22 worshipers and injuring more than 35 others who have gathered for the dawn prayers in Umurari Molai area in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State in northeast Nigeria.
The Secretary General of the OIC Iyad Ameen Madani expressed deep sorrow at this incessant killing of persons especially at places of worship in the ongoing violence in that part of Nigeria.
He warned the perpetrators against going ahead with this course and urged them to desist from their criminal acts to allow peace in the region.
He conveyed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this latest violence and to the people and the Government of Nigeria.
Madani restated the commitment of the OIC to continue its support of efforts of the Government of Nigeria in its renewed campaign to defeat terrorism.
He appealed to the authorities to further raise the security level around places of worship.
