Merkel, Biden offer condolences to Iraq over suicide bombing

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said her country supports the Iraqi government in its war against terrorism.

In a condolences letter to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi, Merkel condemned the Baghdad terror bombing and extended condolences to him and to the Iraqi people over the victims.

Meanwhile, US Vice President Joe Biden had a phone call with Abadi to offer condolences for the tragic loss of life following Daesh's attack in Karada, Baghdad.

More than 200 people were killed and scores more were wounded when a suicide bomber hit a crowded Baghdad shopping area Sunday. The blast hit the Karada district of Baghdad shortly after midnight, when the area was packed with residents who had gone out after breaking their Ramadan fasts.
