Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam, who is currently visiting here, decried the terror blasts that hit the Belgian capital this morning, warning that terrorism is a threat to everyone.
During a speech at the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday, Allam said Egypt had warned more than once against the danger of terrorism but no one listened.
Egypt is now living a political life based on transparency after it completed the political roadmap with the election of a House of Representatives, the mufti said.
Egypt has a pivotal and necessary role at the international and regional levels and no one can cancel or downplay its role and international standing, he said.
Egypt is committed to respecting human rights and freedoms, he stressed, noting that Egyptians do not accept interference in internal affairs.
The series of attacks that struck Brussels airport and the metro system this morning come four days after Salah Abdeslam, the prime surviving suspect for November's Paris attacks on a stadium, cafes and a concert hall, was captured by Belgian police after a shootout.
