Professor Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni

Bahrain embassy in the USA extended condolences to the family of Professor Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni, one of the most prominent international law jurists and “the Godfather of International Criminal Law” and the International Criminal Court, who died at the age of 79 in Chicago.

An official delegation from Bahrain embassy in Washington paid a visit to the family of Bassiouni (born in Cairo in 1937), praying to Allah the Almighty to rest his soul in peace and bless his family and relatives in Egypt and the USA with patience and fortitude.
The embassy asserted hat the Arab nation and mankind have lost a unique and honourable model of international law jurists who worked as a Professor of law at DePaul University in Chicago. He also served as President of the International Human Rights Law Institute. He also was one of the founders of the International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences (ISISC) located in Siracusa, Italy.
He also served as the Secretary General of the International Association of Penal Law and took up many other prestigious international legal posts.
The embassy paid homage to Bassiouni who honestly and responsibly presided Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) which was set up by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in 2011. He asserted during his last visit to Manama in May 2016 that the Bahraini government had been able to surmount 2011 incidents through a comprehensive system of reforms and effective procedures under the ongoing royal reform project.
