Daphne Selfe London - Arabstoday British beauty Daphne Selfe, 83, is still walking catwalks, starring in campaigns, and hasn’t indulged in any cosmetic enhancements. “I think it’s a waste of money,” she said of facelifts and Botox. “Anyway, I couldn’t afford it!” Selfe got her start after winning a local newspaper’s modeling competition. “I’d been told I was nice looking a couple of times,” but was never considered beautiful, she says. “I then started working steadily, it was wonderful.” Selfe says that these days, she “would never make it. I was too short, with wide shoulders from all the riding I did as a young girl. But no one ever asked me to lose weight.” Crediting good genes and Boots creams for her youthful appearance, Selfe says she feels a bit badly about the pressures today’s models face. But nonetheless, “they are so lovely to me,” she insists. “They tell me they want to look like me when they get older.”
