Designer Barkha Shewakramani Dubai - Arabstoday The Middle East’s darling of haute couture fashion Barkha Shewakramani, the creator of the luxurious fashion label Drama Queen, has been nominated for the coveted ‘Best Designer in Dubai’ award at the forthcoming Masala Magazine Most Influential People of 2012 Awards to be held on 25th November, in Dubai. The glitzy event, which is organised annually by Masala - the UAE’s leading, high-quality fashion, style and entertainment magazine - will see Dubai’s uber-trendy glitterati gather at the event to honour a variety of nominees who have made their mark in their respective fields, from fashion and style to entertainment, business and sport. Barkha came to prominence at Dubai Fashion Week in 2007 with a show-stopping, innovative collection, which combined her love of vintage inspired design with glamorous, A-list chic to create classic, timeless pieces that fuse Eastern trends with Western style. The ultra-stylish Drama Queen label has enthralled Dubai’s trend-conscious, socialite crowd since it launched five years ago, and has gone on to capture the hearts of style-savvy women the world over. After four successful seasons of cutting-edge collections, Drama Queen recently launched its debut Indian collection in the fashion hub of Mumbai, with more international tie-ups planned in the coming months. A Fashionista by her very nature, Barkha has often been featured on best dressed lists, and is seen as a pioneer of fashion trends. She said of her nomination: “I am thrilled and humbled to be nominated for such a fantastic award. Fashion is my passion, and from a very young age, I have been interested in creating and customising beautifully tailored clothing. “I design for the style-aware, independent woman, who is not afraid to have her own unique look. Every girl in her own way is full of drama and emotion. She has a longing to be treated like a princess, and every garment of mine makes her feel like a queen.”
