A 25-year-old married woman, who sustained serious burns after her husband poured acid on her and her boyfriend while they were having sex in an apartment, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning.
A medical official at Al Qasimi Hospital told Khaleej Times that the woman was rushed to the emergency room with third-degree burn injuries, which had affected 30 per cent of her body. The victim was taken to the ICU where she was put on artificial respiratory system and given necessary treatment. The woman died after her heart stopped functioning and failed to respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The 23-year-old man, who was also attacked with acid, is still receiving treatment in the ICU.
Police said that the 30-year-old Sri-Lankan husband -- identified as Prishni, who was arrested at the airport -- will face charges of premeditated murder.
The accused has already been referred to public prosecution after he confessed to having carried out the acid attack.
The husband told the police that he could never imagine that his wife would cheat on him, as they have had a long courtship before they got married. However, he felt that his wife's behaviour had changed, of late. According to him, he recently travelled to his home country for family business which required him to stay there for around 20 days. However, one week after having reached there, while browsing the Facebook he spotted a photograph of his wife with another man. He decided not to call her and immediately flew back to Dubai, the man said. He added he stayed in a hotel and started monitoring the movements of his wife and her boyfriend.
He followed them when they entered an apartment while leaving the door opened. He entered the apartment, went straight into the bedroom and threw acid on them while they were together in bed.
