Abu Dhabi - Emirates Voice
A man, who was convicted of abusing and insulting another person by sending him text and voice messages using his mobile phone, will have his case heard again by an appellate court.
The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi has cancelled an earlier ruling by the appeal court - which fined the man Dh10,000 - and ordered a fresh trial because he was not penalised in accordance with the cyber crimes law.
The cyber crimes law stipulates a fine of Dh250,000 or a jail term of not less than three years or both.
The public prosecution had referred the Arab man to court on the charge of insulting another using an IT device when he sent him abusive text and voice messages.
Prosecutors had demanded that the accused be punished in accordance with the provisions of the federal law no. 5 of 2012 on cyber crimes.
The Misdemeanor Court of First Instance had fined the man Dh250,000 and ordered his deportation from the country after he was found guilty of violating the cyber crimes law.
