Al Ain - Arabstoday
Police Sunday arrested two expatriate men in connection with the murder of a taxi driver here. Both men, who are of the same nationality as that of the victim, have confessed to the crime, police said. Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director of Al Ain Police, Sunday said the suspects were arrested within 14 hours of the murder. According to the police, robbery is the likely motive behind the killing. He said the police received information about the murder on Saturday morning and a police team recovered the body from the taxi that was parked near the Eid Mussallah (Eid prayer ground) in Markhania district. The victim, who was in his 30s, was apparently stabbed repeatedly in his chest. A blunt weapon was also recovered from the crime scene, which, the police said, eventually led to the arrest of the suspects. The taxi driver had joined the fleet belonging to a private company only a few months earlier. The suspects had first strangled the driver with the seat belt and then stabbed him in the chest. Brigadier Al Amimi said both defendants tried to snatch money from the driver. When he tried to resist them, the suspects killed him and fled the scene. In a show of solidarity towards the victim, a number of taxi drivers gathered outside the Al Ain Court during Sunday's proceedings. From / Gulf News
