The Sharjah Police have busted a gang of nine Arabs who stole 26 trucks from the emirate and smuggled them to neighbouring countries. In the operation code-named 'spider web', the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) found that some of the trucks were purchased from its owners, who then fraudulently obtained compensation from insurance companies after reporting that their trucks were stolen.

Maj. Mohammed Al Qubaid Al Tneeji, director of the CID in the central region, said Al Dhaid police station received a complaint from a transport company that one of their trucks was stolen.

The police traced the truck to an industrial area in Ajman. It was found that two Arabs stole the truck and made modifications to it. The modifications included changing the chassis number and blurring the identity of the truck by removing its posters. The suspects were then placed under arrest.

The CID team managed to identify the buyer of the stolen truck, who had paid a down-payment to the suspects and promised to pay the rest once they smuggled the truck out of the country. However, the suspects refused the offer and offered the stolen truck to another buyer.
