In a suspected case of honour killing, a father in the Indian state of Telangana killed his 13-year-old teenage daughter for speaking to a boy in school, it is claimed.
It was earlier thought that she had committed suicide but the post-mortem report indicated foul play. The report suggested she might have been strangled as her tongue was sticking out.
The teenager's parents spotted her talking to a boy a number of times. When asked she said it was a casual conversation and that enraged her father.
"They got nervous after realising that their daughter was no more and feared that they would be arrested. So, they doused her body with kerosene and burnt it to show it as a suicide. They later lodged a complaint with the police that the girl had committed suicide out of depression," said the inspector to the Hindustan Times.
It has further been revealed that he always tried to disciple his daughter and didn't allow her from watching music programmes on television as she wanted to be a singer.
The police arrested the father and his wife for murder.
