Fired FBI Director James Comey has agreed to testify in a public session to the Senate Intelligence Committee about his role in the in investigation into alleged Russian influence in last year's presidential election.
No date has been set. Comey was heading the investigation until Trump let him go on May 9. "I am hopeful that he will clarify for the American people recent events that have been broadly reported in the media," Senator Richard Burr, chairman of the committee, said. Senator Mark Warner said he hoped Comey would "shed light on issues critical to this committee’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election." Since Comey's firing a series of leaks have emerged in which President Donald Trump asked for Comey's loyalty and asked him to stop investigating one of his aides. In the latest leak on Friday, Trump called Comey "crazy" during a meeting with the Russian foreign minister in the White House on May 10.
