Two Pakistani men - one currently at large - were charged in court on Tuesday with gagging an Asian couple with a duct tape and tying them up at knifepoint after breaking into their villa and robbing them of Dh855,000.
The driver, 24, and his runaway accomplice used a knife with which they threatened to kill the couple, their cleaner and cook (the two workers were also gagged and tied up), unless they led them to where they kept their money and valuables.
They managed, consequently, to rob Dh 855,000 belonging to the victims. The duo then used the husband's car. The driver admitted to the charges in the Court of First Instance.
The incident occurred on June 7. A complaint was filed at Jebel Ali police station.
Three other Pakistanis, aged between 30 and 42, have also gone on trial on the charge of possessing part of the stolen money. Only one of them was present in the court and denied the charge.
Hospital medical reports show the wife was left with hand swelling, lacerations and back pain while her husband suffered bruises and scratches.
An amount of Dh500,000 was retrieved from one of the accomplices. The police managed to recover another Dh200,000 that the accused had sent to Pakistan.
