Researchers at the Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland have come up with a new discovery that tooth decay can be prevented with coconut oil, as per a recent report. It is being affirmed by the team that the product can be used amongst dental care products for its amazing after-effects. The bacterium responsible for causing decay of tooth is effectively attacked by the oil being recommended, reported Top News . The study was presented at the Society for General Microbiology’s conference, which has also heard that the coconut oil has the power to assault the yeast leading to thrush. As per the findings, different types of oils, including vegetable, olive and coconut, were taken during the analysis. Testing all these for their impact when treated with enzymes and when in their natural states, it was found that the process similar to digestion was helping to curb the growth of the Streptococcus bacteria. The virus is the main reason for tooth decay, as the report says. The team said that it is probably because enzymes break down the oil turning it into acids that prove powerful against bacteria. “Our data suggests that products of human digestion show antimicrobial activity”, said lead author Dr. Damien Brady.
