Two U.S. officials told CNN that the Obama administration has confirmed Daesh terror gang's senior operative Omar al-Shishani is dead.
The officials said he was injured in a U.S. airstrike last week and then died subsequently, though they wouldn't say how they know he is dead, the CNN reported Tuesday.
Red-bearded Shishani, who is also known as 'Omar the Chechen', is among the most wanted terrorists in the world and the U.S. had offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture.
Al-Shishani, whose real name was Tarkhan Batirashvili, was an ethnic Chechen from the former Soviet Republic of Georgia.
Shishani, who had a reputation as one of Daesh' most capable commanders, joined Daesh in 2013, and later was in charge of a prison near Raqqa where the terror organization might have held foreign hostages, a US official said .
