A South Korean man who was kidnapped in the Philippines last year has been killed.
South Korea's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that it has been informed by the Philippine National Police that the victim surnamed Ji in his fifties was strangled to death on the day he was kidnapped in October, state news agency (Yonhap) reported.
The ministry added that an incumbent police officer is related to the case. It said a police officer strangled the man with an accomplice, but the officer hasn't confessed.
The man was kidnapped near his home in the northern Philippine city of Angeles in mid-October. The abductors demanded a ransom of eight million pesos, or some 160-thousand US dollars, around two weeks after the kidnapping.
The man's family sent five million pesos, but he wasn't returned.
