A plague outbreak has killed 33 people and infected more than 200 others in Madagascar, according to Ministry of Health.

The ministry said most of the deaths were caused by the killer pneumonic plague.

The government of the Indian Ocean island nation banned public gatherings to prevent spread of the disease.
