The fiery crash was captured on cell-phone video by a driver.

A twin-engine Cessna 310 plane carrying two passengers crashed on a US freeway near Los Angeles. The aircraft slammed on the freeway shortly after take-off from John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana. The pilot had declared an emergency and was trying to return when the mishap happened.

The two passengers, who miraculously survived the crash, are being treated for their serious injuries. They were pulled out from the wreckage in time.

Captain Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority was quoted by Reuters as telling KABC that the plane clipped a car on the freeway immediately before crashing, but the occupants of the vehicle were not hurt.

The freeway, the main north-south route through southern Orange County, was shut in both directions for about an hour, Reuters reported.

The fiery crash was captured on cell-phone video by a driver. The video shows cars moving on the freeway when out of the blue a plane passes low and hits the road. After that, what one sees is flames and thick smoke all around.
