Nigerian troops operating in restive Borno on Saturday prevented another suicide bomb attack on Ummarari town after intercepting a suspected bomber on his way to the community.
Spokesperson for the Nigerian Army Col. Sani Usman said in a statement made available to Xinhua in Maiduguri, the capital of northeast Borno, that the troops averted yet another suicide bombing catastrophe by suspected Boko Haram terrorist at about 7 a.m. local time.
According to him, troops of 7 Division Garrison said the suicide bomber was intercepted by the vigilant troops and local security force while attempting to enter the village and harm innocent persons in the community.
The suspect was forced to detonate his explosives after he was halted by security agents and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), he added.
Usman said the suicide bomber detonated the strapped Improvised Explosive Device vest on his body, killing himself instantly when he was forced to halt.
The Army spokesperson added that troops and the Civilian JTF at the village, are now combing the surrounding area to forestall further attacks and clear the environment of likely remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.
