A young man stabbed four victims early Tuesday at a train station

A young man stabbed four victims early Tuesday at a train station near Munich in Germany, killing one and injuring three other passengers.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) at the Grafing train station, about 35 km east of Munich, according to police officer Guenther Gietl who was speaking at a press conference.

Four people between 43 and 58 years old were attacked by the 27-year-old German. A 56-year-old victim later died in hospital because of his injuries, Gietl said.

The attacker was reportedly overtaken and arrested by police at the scene. The motive behind the attack is not yet clear.

Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said the attacker from the German state of Hesse was clearly in a poor mental state.

According to investigators, there is no link to any extremist groups.

It is unclear to investigators why the man, who has been jobless for the past two years, traveled to Grafing to carry out the attack.
