A jobless Emirati has denied that he dumped the body of a heroin addict on her sister’s doorstep, telling a court that he had never even met the woman.
"I don’t know who this woman is and I had never seen her in my entire life. Besides, I was sleeping at the hospital that day," said the man, 32.
Prosecutors said that on November 13 last year, the man and the woman, also Emirati, were using drugs when she took an overdose of heroin and died instantly.
"We received a tip about him for using drugs. We didn’t know about his involvement in the death of that woman," said an Emirati lieutenant.
Police went to the man’s Al Barsha home but did not find him. Three days later he was arrested at a friend’s house and referred to the anti-narcotics department.
"We discovered he was involved in the woman’s death later, during investigations. After she died, he dumped her body at her sister’s doorstep and fled," the officer said.
He was not charged with using drugs, only with disposing of the woman’s body.
"I am innocent. I have a family to return to and support, your honour," he said to presiding judge Erifan Omar.
