Five people were killed in a house fire Wednesday night in the town of Shilka in southern Russia's Zabaykalsky region, investigators said Thursday.

Bodies of a retired man and woman, a middle-aged couple and a 12-year-old boy were found in the house, according to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Zabaykalsky.

The fire erupted Wednesday night, and the five are believed to be of the same family, the committee said in a statement.

Preliminary investigations showed that electrical faults had caused the fire.
