The meetings of the Global Counterterrorism Forum were started on Sunday in Cairo under the auspicious of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
The two days meetings will be attended by senior officials from 35 countries including the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council as well as representatives from the European Union and a number of regional and international organizations.
The forum’s activities include a consulting meeting for restructuring the work groups of the Global Counterterrorism Forum and another meeting for the forum's criminal justice and the rule of law work group led by Egypt and the US.
The meetings come within Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism as well as its membership in the UN Security Council especially that Egypt is currently chairing the council’s counterterrorism committee.
