Indian rescue workers and local residents look for survivors at the site of building collapse.

A teenage girl was killed and a minor boy sustained injuries after part of an abandoned building of a shelter for vagrants collapsed in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka early Tuesday.

"A teenage girl died while a minor body was injured as the building collapsed on a tin-shed house early Tuesday," Anwar Hossain, a Dhaka Metropolitan Police official, told journalists.

He said Fire Service and Civil Defence members shortly after the accident rushed to the site and rescued the boy and the girl who was pronounced dead after she was whisked off to a local hospital.

According to officials, some families including one of the teenage girl used to live at the tin-shed house near the abandoned building despite warnings several times to move from there.

The shelter for vagrants was earlier shifted from the building following its dilapidated condition.
