British police numbers have been stepped up at "key locations" around the UK after terror attacks in the Belgian capital Brussels left at least 13 people dead, the BBC reported on Tuesday.
The blasts hit Brussels Airport and a metro station shortly after 07:00 GMT.
The UK's most senior counter-terror officer said the security step-up was a precaution, while the PM is to hold an emergency response meeting shortly.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel told a press conference "scores" of people had been killed or injured in the attacks at the airport and Maelbeek metro station.
The Belgian prosecutor said it was "probably a suicide bomber" who struck the airport.
