A Kenyan court on Tuesday sentenced a 70-year-old man to death for robbery with violence. Kuria Kihunyu was accused of robbing a man of his mobile phone and other personal items during an attack in September. The father of 12 was arrested when he attempted to sell off the mobile phone. \"The prosecution has proven the case beyond reasonable doubt,\" Magistrate Esther Boke ruled. \"The accused\'s defence that he was framed is a mere denial as he did not establish any motive for the complainant to frame him.\" Under Kenyan law, offences such as murder, robbery with violence and treason are punishable by death carried out through hanging, but the country has never hanged anybody since 1987. Kihunyu, who did not have a lawyer and said he was innocent, has 14 days to appeal.
