Seven people were killed and 35 injured in a bus-truck collision on Al Jelis Street in Dubai on Tuesday. The accident occurred around 8am.
The bus was carrying 41 people, including the driver, which led to the high number of fatalities.
The victims include four Indians, two Nepalese and one Pakistani.
Brigadier General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director General of Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said preliminary report indicates that the mishap happened after one of the bus tyres burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus veered off the road and rammed into a truck coming from the opposite direction.
Brigadier Al Mazrouei pointed out that immediately after receiving information, traffic patrols swung into action and reached the accident scene. Ambulances and rescue vehicles took stock of the situation. The injured were rushed to the hospital. Accident experts were also dispatched to the site to probe the incident and gather evidence to ascertain the cause of the accident.
As many as 22 people trapped in the bus were rescued.
