6 killed in China's gold mine accident

Six people have been killed and one injured in a gold mine accident in northern suburbs of Beijing, local authorities said.

The government of the city's Pinggu District received report from the township of Jinhaihu, saying five people were trapped in a mine shaft while illegally mining gold. The report also mentioned two injured who had been sent to a local hospital, according to China's (Xinhua) News Agency.

Rescuers pulled five bodies out of the shaft. One of the injured inhaled too much toxic gas and died in hospital later, a government spokesman said.

An investigation into the accident has been underway.
