Two persons were killed and 23 others injured on Tuesday when a tent in a mosque in Istanbul collapsed under the weight of snow, local media reported.

The incident occurred during a funeral prayer at the mosque in Istanbul's district of Bakirkoy, and Mayor Bulent Kerimoglu confirmed the casualties.

"The snow on the canopy should have been cleaned," a female eyewitness was quoted as saying by the Hurriyet daily.

Istanbul has been hit by heavy snow over the past four days.
