A total of 111 people were killed in Vietnam during four-day holiday from last Saturday to Tuesday, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee on Wednesday.

During the four-day holiday of Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day of Vietnam (which falls on April 30) and May Day (May 1), as many as 152 traffic accidents happened across the country, leaving 111 people dead and 138 others injured, local Thanh Nien (Young People) online newspaper quoted the committee as reporting.

On average, some 38 traffic accidents occurred each day of the holiday, causing 27 deaths and 34 others injured.

On Tuesday alone, a total of 60 traffic accidents happened, leaving 41 dead and 50 injured, reported Thanh Nien.

During holidays in Vietnam, many people take the chance to return home or travel around. Holiday travel rush makes traffic accidents happen more frequently.
