As the Cairo side pushed forward towards the end of the game. they almost conceded a second goal. Ahmed Shedid blocked Paulinho's shot on the counter-attack when it looked easier to score. The result means Ahly will face either Chelsea or Mexico's Monterrey in the third-place playoff match on Sunday. That semi-final takes place on Thursday at the International Stadium in Yokohama. Corinthians, winners of the first Club World Cup in 2000, have qualified for Sunday's final.
