Paolo Guerrero scored a 1st half header London - Arabstoday Egyptian side al-Ahly have been knocked out of the FIFA Club World Cup after suffering a 1-0 defeat in their semi-final against Brazilian champions Corinthians, in Japan. Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero beat defender Wael Gomaa to get on the end of a dangerous cross from Douglas, and score the only goal of the match in the 30th minute. Ahly showed plenty of heart and effort but lacked quality to score that all-important equaliser. Ramy Rabia wasted their best chance early on, heading wide from Walid Soliman's free-kick in the 11th minute. In the second half, Ahmed Fathi tried to lob goalkeeper Cassio, who was off his line, but could only find the side-netting. As the Cairo side pushed forward towards the end of the game. they almost conceded a second goal. Ahmed Shedid blocked Paulinho's shot on the counter-attack when it looked easier to score. The result means Ahly will face either Chelsea or Mexico's Monterrey in the third-place playoff match on Sunday. That semi-final takes place on Thursday at the International Stadium in Yokohama. Corinthians, winners of the first Club World Cup in 2000, have qualified for Sunday's final.
