Prisoners’ health conditions

The Media Committee of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ society, present the summary of the twentieth day of the “Freedom and Dignity strike”, which is conducted by the prisoners’ movement in the Israeli jails.

– Palestinian detainees continue the battle of freedom and dignity, which was launched on April 17, 2017 to achieve their basic rights, from which they are deprived and which they have achieved previously through hunger strikes. Their demands are represented in ending the policy of administrative detention, ending the solitary confinement and the prevention of lawyers and family visits and other legitimate demands.

-The Media Committee confirmed that no official negotiations were held with the striking detainees.

-Twenty days after the strike, health condition of the striking detainees is deteriorating, as they suffer from loss of balance, low blood pressure, low heartbeat and muscle atrophy.

-Suppression forces of the prisons’ administration carry out daily attacks against the striking detainees, including incursions and provocative searches, in addition to transferring detainees between prisons and isolation sections.

-The Israeli Prison Service still preventing striking detainees form communicating with the outside world, and depriving them of lawyers’ visits. Since the first day of the strike, detainees’ institutions were able to visit only10 striking detainees.

-Events supporting the striking detainees are continuous in all cities of the country, where the Media Committee calls for all categories of the Palestinian people to engage in those activities.
