As Kuwait commemorates the ninth anniversary of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, January 15, KUNA Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah recalled Kuwaitis and world's admiration of the late Amir's wisdom.
"Kuwaitis are remembering with all respect and pride the march of late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who steered the country to safety amid tremendous storms that hit the region in the last two decades of the twentieth century," KUNA Chairman said in remarks Wednesday.
"The whole world admired the wisdom and far-sighted policy of late Sheikh Jaber in dealing with challenges." He noted that Sheikh Jaber's wisdom had protected Kuwait security and stability without dragging into the regional and international conflicts.
"Late Amir Sheikh Jaber was a unique leader who maintained Kuwait's security and stability and helped it acquire much higher standing on the international and regional levels through his stances and wise policies of opening up to the world and founding balanced relations with world countries based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs," Sheikh Mubarak said.
He highlighted Sheikh Jaber's role of luring international support against the 1990 blatant Iraqi aggression, namely his effort, with aid of the late Father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and the (current) Amir His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for establishing an unprecedented international military alliance to liberate the country.
He underlined that the late Amir left undeniable marks on philanthropic and development domains across the world, especially in the poor countries.
Sheikh Mubarak cited as examples Sheikh Jaber's adoption of proposal to found the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) which now finances development projects in nearly 100 countries as well as his announcement about writing off debts of the poor countries to Kuwait.
He shed light on the leading role played by Sheikh Jaber on the region particularly his proposal to found the Gulf Cooperation Council.
"He believed that the strength and stability of Gulf countries depends on their unity," KUNA Chief said.
He concluded that late Sheikh Jaber's achievements are major positive parts of in the political, military, economic, and social history of Kuwait
