Sheikh Salman Sabah al-Humoud

Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Humoud Al-Sabah said Thursday the recent withdrawal of the license of a local daily is pursuant to the provisions of the publication law.
"The law provides that a media outlet needs to have a legal entity, which is missing for the daily newspaper in question," the minister told reporters at the National Assembly.
"The State of Kuwait is keen on the promotion of the freedom of the press within the legal and constitutional frameworks," he said, affirming the principled resolve of the Ministry of Information to apply law on all media institution.
The margin of press freedom in Kuwait is a role model for other countries in the region, he said noting that this freedom is enshrined in the constitution of the country.
Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for the Press and Publication Affairs Luluwa Salem said that the company owning the daily and a number of magazines was dissolved and thereby these publications were banned under Article 14 of the Publication Act No. 3 for 2006.
