Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa described endorsing a unified Family Law as a historic turning point. After a unanimous approval by the Shura Council of the family draft law in its extraordinary meeting which convened today, he said the law comprises many common things and unify families more than ever before as its provides a legislative tool that enables judges to boost family stability. He described the law as a boost to national unity, tolerance, co-existence and respect of religion and the nation.
Shaikh Khalid noted that Bahrain has never known division between its people and the endorsement of the unified law is a reinforcement of this trend and a boost to the concept of putting the state and law above anything else. He added the law will usher in a new phase of fostering the social texture of the family in Bahrain.
The Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister extended thanks to His Majesty the King for his order to set up a Sharia committee, His Royal Highness the Premier for following up on the new law, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for his initiative and support and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for her efforts to back the law and develop sharia courts.
Shaikh Khalid also thanked Chancellor Abdullah Al-Buainin for his efforts to ensure compatibility between the religious and legal issues when he was Secretary of the Sharia Committee and Chairman of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission. He also thanked the Shura Council members for their key role in making the law see the daylight. He also pointed out that the unified law was approved by all and preserved the doctrinal specificity in Bahrain.
