H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, participated in a meeting of the Quartet on the situation in Yemen, that was held today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was also attended by US Secretary of State John Kerry, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir, British Minister for Middle East and North African Affairs Tobias Ellwood, Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, and the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
The ministers discussed a roadmap proposed by the UN special envoy to solve the Yemeni crisis that has been escalating for more than 20 month, and ways of pushing the peace process forward.
The meeting focused on the importance of the three terms of reference, namely the GCC initiative, UN Security Council Resolution 2216 and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference. It also focused on the need for ending the war in Yemen, and ways of making continuing to develop a plan to end the fighting through a political settlement.
Mohammed Saeed Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Salim Khalifa Al Ghafli, UAE Ambassador to Yemen, also attended the meeting.
