The UAE is continuing with its humanitarian efforts to help Pakistan through the implementation of a number of development projects. The projects were chalked out as per the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to alleviate the suffering of the victims of the floods that devastated Pakistan last year. It has been estimated that one-third of the Pakistani population suffers from lack of pure drinking water and over 46 per cent have no access to proper sanitation facilities. The directorate of the UAE project to help Pakistan announced that a total of 64 projects for distribution of drinking water has been completed. The projects include digging of wells, establishment of water purification stations and construction of pipelines to carry drinking water into around 64 villages in various provinces in Pakistan at a total cost of $6 million (Dh22 million). Almost 60 per cent of these projects has been completed so far. From / Gulf News
