Thousands of Palestinians took part in a demonstration organized by the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel in Al-Jalil, Palestine 48, in protest of the Israeli law banning the Adhan (Muslim call to prayer).
The protest, which took place in the village of Kabul in Al-Jalil last night, followed several demonstrations organized in a number of Arab towns and villages in Palestine 48, including Al-Nassrah and Umm Al-Fahm.
Arab Knesset member Yousef Jabareen, who took part in the protest, said that the leadership of the Arab citizens in Palestine 48 is determined to resist the law in the case of final approval, saying: "We will not succumb to the dictates of racism imposed by the extremist Israeli right-wing government".
The Knesset’s ministerial committee made a preliminary approval for the bill on Wednesday, which stipulates banning loudspeakers broadcasting the Adhan from 11 pm to 7 am. This will particularly ban the early morning Fajr prayer, one of the five daily Islamic prayers.
The committee decided to ban loudspeakers during the Fajr prayer for the regard of not disturbing people during their sleep at night. There is also another proposal, suggesting switching off all loudspeakers in residential areas at all hours.
