The Arab League (AL) voices its concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Libya, AL Deputy Secretary General for Social Affairs Badr Eldin Alaly said on Tuesday.

A total of 40% of the Libyan population are suffering from shortage in humanitarian aid, he added.

"The continuation of the humanitarian crises in the Arab region prompt us to put them on the top priorities of the upcoming Arab summit's agenda to come up with recommendations that could help Arab ٍStates and the international community to serve those who are in dire need," Alaly asserted. 

He made the remarks during a press conference held on the sidelines of a meeting at the AL headquarters to discuss the UN preparations for holding the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit slated to be held in Istanbul on May 23-24.

The UN summit is expected to review the 2016 humanitarian response plan aiming to provide the basic humanitarian needs for some 2.4 million in Libya. 

For his part, UN Humanitarian Coordinator to Libya Ali al-Zaatari expressed his worry about the tragic humanitarian situation in Libya, calling for uniting efforts to finance the 2016 humanitarian plan.
